Téréli Secondary School Garden

In 2007 Téréli Secondary School was built. (Building of School) Since then essential work has been completed at the school. A toilet block, office for the director and installation of a solar panel has made a great difference. New furniture for the classrooms has been delivered.

The director of the secondary school, Issiaka Tembine, was keen to establish a school garden so that produce could be grown to supplement the meal provided during the day.

In 2011 Zakari Saye sent a list of the fruit and vegetables growing in the garden. There are shallot onions, potatoes, tomatoes, eggplant, cabbages, carrots, salad and some fruit plants: orange, mango and papaya.

In this hot climate trees are very important. Many youngsters have been involved in the planting of trees near the school. The youngsters look after the trees. After one year, if the trees are still thriving, youngsters are given a reward of school supplies or clothes. Trees planted in the school garden will help provide shade for the vegetables.

All the work at Téréli Secondary School has been in conjunction with Coup de Pouce, a charity in Le Havre, France (more) and AEERTPS our partners in Mali.
